St Paul University Philippines, Philippines
This study focused on Muslim teachers or asatidz teaching the Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) subjects under the Madrasah Education Program implemented in public schools in the Philippines. Considering the limited information on asatidz teaching experiences, the study explored asatidz teacher development, teaching and learning practices, and training and development, using a phenomenological framework. Twenty-one key informants shared their lived experiences through interviews, and their responses were analysed using reflexive thematic analysis. Relevant themes were discussed to elucidate a plethora of influences that correspond to the asatidz belief system, behaviour, and teaching and learning practices.
