Editorial 7(1)

Welcome to the first issue of Queensland Researcher for 1991.

We are pleased to be able to publish the text of the paper delivered by Professor Poole at the Annual General Meeting of the Institute in November last. The paper, Education and Work: Some Evolving Policy Perspectives, generated considerable rich debate at the presentation. The use of case study details to illuminate the points raised by Professor Poole brings the reader to a closer understanding of some of the critical issues in the area.

Exciting and challenging times are likely to face educators and education in Queensland this year with the current restructuring of educational services in State schools. Some of the topical issues resulting from this process include devolution of responsibility, school based decision making, managing change and school development. It is to be hoped that the educational research community will play an active part in monitoring the restructuring process and helping those engaged in the educational enterprise to understand these and other related issues as the restructuring proceeds. Accordingly we invite papers both theoretical and practical on these and other relevant topics.
